Dereck Wong
Dereck Wong is a dedicated History and Humanities educator with exceptional experience gained through over two decades of teaching across international and local schools in Hong Kong.
With his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Queen's University in Kingston, Canada, a Master of Arts in English Language Teaching from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in History from the University of Hong Kong, Dereck has navigated seamlessly into a professional journey distinguished by a consistent record of outstanding student achievement in IGCSE and IBDP History examinations, alongside demonstrated leadership in curriculum development.
At International Christian School, Dereck successfully modified their Grade 8 Humanities curriculum to meet C3 standards, implementing an interdisciplinary, project-based model that received excellent feedback from students. At Kiangsu-Chekiang College (International Section), he designed and implemented innovative problem-based curricula for KS3 and KS4 History as well as KS3 Geography that helped students prepare more effectively for diploma-level courses. Dereck consistently mentored students to attain top grades on the IB Extended Essay, and led teams to semi-final appearances in interschool competitions such as the International History Bowl.
Dereck's educational philosophy centers on unlocking each student's untapped potential by fostering curiosity, self-discipline, empathy, and compassion for the world around them. Outside of teaching, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing the guitar, and reading -- all reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning and work-life balance.
