Our team shares an intense passion for changing the way education prepares students for the future. Our members have led academic programs at top local and international schools on five continents, and we are excited to bring those diverse perspectives to Saint Too Bloom Academy.

Our Leadership Team

Robyn Collins

Student Support Coordinator

Robyn is a very seasoned educator with over 40 years of experience in many different school systems. Trained in Australia with a Teaching degree and a Master’s degree in Gifted Education, Robyn has worked in many different fields of education. This includes Primary education as a classroom teacher and as a reading specialist, which has given her a firm understanding of how children learn and how to support them as they develop. This grounding has helped Robyn when moving into Secondary education as an SEN, EAL and  Gifted education specialist and English teacher. Robyn has also been a consultant in schools to principals as well as in teacher training.

Robyn is a member of the World Council for Gifted Education, presenting at many world conferences about work in this field as well as presenting at NEASC and many regional education conferences. Her interest in Gifted education comes from parenting three gifted children, which prompted her to run the South Australian Gifted Program where children attended classes of interest and Robyn shared her expertise with parents and caregivers.

After teaching in the top private schools in Australia, Robyn has worked Internationally for over 16 years in The United Arab Emirates, New York schools, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Switzerland. These experiences have evoked her ongoing love of exploring cultural differences and international mindedness as well as supporting equity in schools. Robyn believes in developing the ideals of inclusive education in schools, believing that all students have the right to excellence in education.

Robyn has three grown children and one grandchild who live in Australia. After a wide and varied journey in education, Robyn is looking to share her knowledge and experience with the Bloom community.

Michael Chan

Science Coordinator

Michael Chan is an accomplished and dedicated science teacher with extensive experience in the Makerspace and STEM education field. He holds a ProfGCE in Science with a specialisation in Biology from Newcastle University. As part of his course, he taught at Southmoor Academy and Kingsmeadow Community College. In addition, he possesses a Biomedical Science BSc with honours from the University of Hull, where he extensively studied various scientific disciplines, including microbiology, immunology, genetics, cancer biology, and proteomics.

Michael has over five years of teaching experience in Hong Kong. He has been able to instill the love of science and STEM education in secondary students. A strength of his is that he encourages all of his students to find their inner creator and develop their critical and creative thinking skills through problem solving. Michael seeks to enlighten students about the joys and wonders of science and STEM, while ensuring that they maintain curiosity and ask important questions to drive the inquiry process.

He has experience working with a wide range of students. Prior to joining Bloom, he served as a teaching assistant at Durham Trinity College. He provided invaluable support to students with special educational needs, creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment. Michael's commitment to his students' well-being was evident through his proactive management of classroom behaviour and his dedication to fostering a supportive atmosphere where every student could thrive.


Evangelos Dasopatis

Secondary Teacher

Evangelos Dasopatis is an accomplished and passionate English educator with a lifelong love of literature and reading, first nurtured in his hometown of Cape Town, South Africa. He holds a Teaching Diploma from Stellenbosch University, complemented by an Honours Degree in English Literature from the same institution, where he immersed himself in the study of literary theory, classic and contemporary works, and critical analysis.


With over twenty years of teaching experience, Evangelos has taught English across diverse educational settings in South Africa, Qatar, Mainland China, and currently Hong Kong. His expertise covers a wide range of curricula, including IGCSE, A-Levels, and the International Baccalaureate (IB), where he also serves as an examiner. He has additionally held leadership roles such as Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Coordinator, guiding students to develop critical thinking skills and interdisciplinary perspectives.


Evangelos is dedicated to making literature engaging, dynamic, and relevant for his students. He strives to create a classroom environment where texts are relatable, encouraging students to form their own opinions and engage in thoughtful debates. His teaching philosophy emphasizes the importance of listening to and understanding diverse interpretations while equipping students with the tools to articulate their thoughts through writing and speaking. By fostering this environment, Evangelos helps students build the critical and creative abilities essential for success in today’s world.

John Urquhart

Secondary Teacher

Born on a NATO air force base in France and educated in Canada, John Urquhart began his teaching career in a remote community in northern Manitoba. John holds an Honours Degree in History and a Bachelor of Education with specialties in History and English from the University of Winnipeg. He also has extensive professional training in EAL methodologies and has devoted most of his thirty years in education working with students whose home language is not English. Over the years, he has taught students across three continents and gained significant school leadership experience as Head of EAL and Curriculum Coordinator, working with a range of curricula including the International Baccalaureate. These experiences have shaped him into an enthusiastic advocate of inquiry-based learning and a skilled facilitator of student-led knowledge construction.


Music is an animating force for John, who is a singer, guitarist, and songwriter who played in Winnipeg rock bands, and throughout his career he has been able to bring music into the classroom. A committed teacher of writing, John is a practicing author who has published fiction and criticism in Canadian literary magazines, and has written and produced plays and musicals in schools in Canada, Switzerland, and here in Hong Kong. Besides an essential communication tool, writing is a powerful way to deepen one’s understanding of something - whether it is science, literature, or anything else.


Sixteen years after arriving, John is fully at home in Hong Kong. His previous appointment was with Creative Secondary School where he taught Humanities, English, and Theory of Knowledge. He also generated student voice for the school newsletter by recruiting and facilitating a team of student journalists. Teaching for John is a creative activity and he believes that students learn best in a creative, caring, and collaborative environment.


Shu Chen

Secondary Teacher

Shu Chen is an expert in several Chinese dialects. A native Mandarin speaker, she is also proficient in Shanghainese and Cantonese as well as English. Her skills and passion in language learning led her to a career in education where she can share the beauty of Chinese culture with non-Chinese as well as Chinese students.

After her Bachelor of Science degree in business at Benedictine College, Shu obtained her Post Graduate Diploma in Education and Master of Education from the Hong Kong Baptist University. She taught Mandarin for 8 years in local Hong Kong secondary and international schools, as well as Liberal Studies for secondary students. Well-trained in the IB teaching system, Shu was also a grade-level teacher who incorporated interdisciplinary learning across various subjects. She was most recently Year Level Head at the Singapore International School Hong Kong overseeing curriculum planning, designing assessments, and developing immersion programs in cultural studies.

Over her decade-long teaching career, Shu observed how a student’s l environment can impact their mental development. She believes that successful positive learning is best achieved by teaching students to be self-motivated to pursue knowledge and become inquisitive learners through asking questions. Shu’s students practice learning-by-doing to reinforce active recall of their knowledge and language in real-life situations and to acquire critical thinking skills to analyze different situations they might encounter.

Shu is currently working towards her Doctoral Degree in Education with research on the development of Chinese curriculum. She is excited to join Bloom to share her love for Chinese language, history, and rich cultural heritage.
