Sybil Shen

Head of Pastoral Care, Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Advisor

Sybil is an experienced teacher, having taught both mathematics and science at all levels since 2014. In pursuit of an innovative and interactive classroom teaching style that can articulate the intricate knowledge to students in an easily understandable manner, Sybil has been relentlessly focusing her efforts on a practical and efficient pedagogy allowing her students to fulfill their potential while enjoying the learning process. She understands that every student is unique in terms of interest and aspiration, and therefore develops lesson plans that help each and every student to excel.

With a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from the East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai, the strong academic background in cross-disciplinary research has equipped Sybil with the capability and thinking to understand every step that students need to take for success.

Over the past years, she has been teaching our pilot secondary students, guiding them to achieve magnificent success in their academic careers and enter numerous prestigious universities with astonishing good grades.

Michael Chan

Science Coordinator

Michael Chan is an accomplished and dedicated science teacher with extensive experience in the Makerspace and STEM education field. He holds a ProfGCE in Science with a specialisation in Biology from Newcastle University. As part of his course, he taught at Southmoor Academy and Kingsmeadow Community College. In addition, he possesses a Biomedical Science BSc with honours from the University of Hull, where he extensively studied various scientific disciplines, including microbiology, immunology, genetics, cancer biology, and proteomics.

Michael has over five years of teaching experience in Hong Kong. He has been able to instill the love of science and STEM education in secondary students. A strength of his is that he encourages all of his students to find their inner creator and develop their critical and creative thinking skills through problem solving. Michael seeks to enlighten students about the joys and wonders of science and STEM, while ensuring that they maintain curiosity and ask important questions to drive the inquiry process.

He has experience working with a wide range of students. Prior to joining Bloom, he served as a teaching assistant at Durham Trinity College. He provided invaluable support to students with special educational needs, creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment. Michael's commitment to his students' well-being was evident through his proactive management of classroom behaviour and his dedication to fostering a supportive atmosphere where every student could thrive.
