Curriculum

Curriculum

Our educational journey at Saint Too Bloom Academy begins with two years of Key Stage 3 (KS3), covering a broad spectrum of subjects designed to lay a solid foundation for our students' academic and personal growth.

During KS3, students engage with a core set of subjects, including English Language and English Literature, Math, Science, Humanities (incorporating History and Geography), and Chinese. This comprehensive curriculum covers essential academic disciplines and prepares students for more specialized studies in later stages.

After completing KS3, students transition to the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) program, a globally recognized qualification that prepares them for advanced educational pursuits. Bloom students focus on the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) core subjects within the IGCSE, ensuring a wide range of options for further study and future careers. Following the IGCSE, students may advance to our A Level program, another prestigious international qualification that allows deeper specialization in subjects they are most passionate about, thus providing a tailored pathway to their desired educational and career outcomes. In the coming years, we plan to also introduce the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (DSE) Exam to expand the bilingual options of our academic program.

Our Key Stage 3 (KS3) curriculum provides a robust foundation for secondary education at Saint Too Bloom Academy. This enriching two-year program, encompassing Grades 7 and 8, equips students with essential knowledge and skills across a range of subjects. It encourages intellectual risks, exploration of new interests, and development of independent learning skills, fostering lifelong enthusiasm for learning.

Transition from Primary to Secondary

For students transitioning from Bloom KKCA Academy, the KS3 journey begins in Grade 6 with early exposure to core content and skills in subjects like English, Mathematics, Geography, History, and Science. This foundation is further developed through Grades 7 and 8. Our dedicated faculty, including the Lower Secondary Coordinator and subject teachers, provide the necessary support and guidance for a smooth transition from primary to secondary education.

Preparing for the Future

The KS3 curriculum at Bloom is structured with rigor and clear performance benchmarks to identify support areas for students. We emphasize developing key life skills such as critical thinking, creativity, effective communication, and adaptability, preparing students for specialized academic paths in Key Stage 4 and beyond, including IGCSE and A Levels.

Subject Offerings

Students focus on the English Baccalaureate (EBacc) core subjects within the IGCSE, including English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Humanities (History and Geography), and Modern Languages (Chinese Mandarin). Students can also choose from a range of elective subjects that align with their personal interests and career aspirations. These electives allow students to explore additional areas such as Computer Science, Art and Design, and Business Studies, providing a well-rounded educational experience.

Why Choose IGCSE?

The IGCSE program offers our students numerous benefits:

  • Global Recognition: As "the world's most popular international qualification" (Cambridge IGCSE, 2024), it is recognized by leading universities and employers worldwide, facilitating global educational and career opportunities.
  • Strong Skills Development: The program's structure emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, metacognition, creativity, and learning skills across subjects. It also encourages applying knowledge to real-world situations, fostering practical skills.
  • Preparation for Higher Education: The rigorous assessment methods and comprehensive curriculum offer thorough preparation for further studies, particularly A Levels.

By choosing IGCSEs at Saint Too Bloom Academy, students engage in an academically enriching program supported by dedicated faculty, ensuring they are well-prepared for future educational and career opportunities.

Subject Offerings

Students typically choose three to four subjects to focus on areas they wish to pursue at university. Our offerings include English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Sciences, Humanities, Mandarin Chinese, Art and Design, Business Studies, and Economics. Students are assessed mainly through examinations, with some incorporating coursework. This rigorous assessment method ensures a deep, comprehensive understanding of each subject.

Why Choose A Levels?

A Levels offer several benefits:

  • Specialization: Focus deeply on your chosen subjects, which is advantageous for university admissions and studies. At the same time, compared to programs such as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP), the A Levels gives you the liberty of pursuing other academic and career in other stimulating ways such as electives, internships, research, and independent projects that do not entail public examinations.
  • Flexibility: Select any 3 to 4 subjects that align with your career aspirations and academic interests.
  • Recognition: A Levels are recognized by universities internationally, opening doors to a wide range of options for advanced studies.

Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

(EPQ), fostering independent learning and deep exploration into a subject of personal interest. The EPQ allows students to design and complete an extensive project, facilitating development in critical thinking, research, and project management skills. This project could take the form of a dissertation, an investigation, a performance, or an artifact, providing a platform to demonstrate their passion and expertise in a chosen area.

This qualification enhances their academic profile and aligns with our educational philosophy, encouraging personalized and reflective learning pathway as well as empowering students to take ownership of their education to prepare for their future with confidence and distinction.
